Sappho may have leaped off a cliff
Still, she landed immortalized in
fragments that lead to her remains
enduring on the page like Sylvia’s
last feel, headfirst many followed
dropping the apron, picking up
their pen, a legacy of so many
sizzling poems, stories, and a novel although her mate became a
laureate Plath is remembered as
poet, like
Sexton who took her final drive
from the driver’s side never leaving
her garage, the messages she left
us all forever in stanzas of desire
inspire so many to take the drive
enjoy the journey on every page
taking the wheel, each rhyme
and line breaks reveal, we are
the children of Sappho, Sylvia
and Sexton, we honor our mother
muses with every line of poetry
enjoying the leap, forgoing the
stove, leave the keys in the front
seat,
explore on the typewriter, keyboard,
blank page, each word a testament to
their lives eternal keep inspiring all
of us beyond the spine, for every
pathway within each line, we
confess to conquering all the fear,
our ink
still wet, as each scar heals, the volume of
verses from all our voices loudly reveals—to
proudly declare us universally brave.
