Anglerfish
Can I kiss you?Â
he said
And I told him
yes
His lips brushed against my chin
like the passing fin a of startled fish
I think you missed, I told him
Here, let’s try again
I steered us to a perfect landingÂ
reeled him in from the dangling line
Later, when I scrubbed the blood off my teeth,
I wondered
if the blame was his
or mine
