riverbed riders
               we met in august           but
here they are now          running ahead
               of me through an empty
     stadium      underneath inverted steps
               hanging like stalactites
passing concrete pillars &Â
abandoned concessions           we stopÂ
at a stream of water          it runsÂ
through the stadium   i don’t seeÂ
its mouth      or where it drains
    gavin dove in            swimmingÂ
against the current    becoming a buoyÂ
letting the stream guide them
               hannah next      diving without
making any ripples        my bare feetÂ
               hesitated           i haven’t hadÂ
       friends          not like these two
it’s been so long           they are leaning
against my wide bubble           and i trustÂ
when it bursts           they’ll form a new
one with me            i take offÂ
             my shirt       & jump inÂ
after them      three consecutive leapsÂ
  into a riverbed           they don’tÂ
know it yet       but this dreamÂ
has shown me our future
